Scissor lifts are commonly used for reaching and working on things straight overhead – such as wiring, changing bulbs, installing hanging ceilings, painting/dry-wall instillation, overhead sprinklers, etc. There are two main classes of scissor lifts – electric scissors and all-terrain engine-powered scissors. Electric scissor lifts are designed for work on hard, flat surfaces and are typically used inside buildings with finished floors. Most are narrow enough to fit through standard doors and range in max working height from 18’9” to 32’. Rough terrain scissors are engine powered (usually diesel) and do not require finished floors for operation (although a relatively flat surface is required). Lift heights range from 26’-43’.
